I like to juxtapose elements against each other to indicate the space between reality and spirituality, the world we live in. There is gesture in human form that suggests deep emotions. Simple objects are infused with potential through their placement, color and importance. It is in the emotion evoked by elements not usually placed together or placed out of context that art tells us something new about the world we share.

I find elements to work with in nature, landscape, still life and human interaction. Surprise comes in my paintings by using color to express emotion and shape to present an alternative point of view. I use all kinds of source material: my drawings, newspaper photos, my photographs, glimpsed and remembered scenes. I reflect on my own emotions and use source material as well as a spontaneous reaction to create what I do.

Some of my paintings are done with oil bars on canvas and occasionally masonite or medium density fiber board. They are done over an under painting either in opposite colors to the planned composition or flat color to heighten what is painted on top. Some other paintings are done with a palette knife on prepared mdf with tube oil colors. I delight in using color and give myself permission to use it freely to express emotions I only sense.
